didn't set up a PIN - how do I get in after restart

Hi,
I just got a Pixel 2 at the Verizon store, and later shut off the phone. Now that it's on again, it reads that "PIN required after device restarts." However, I don't believe we ever set up a PIN (maybe we were supposed to, but the customer service rep wandered off to help another customer while the new Google phone was finishing up transferring info from my old iPhone.) My iPhone password doesn't work, nor does 1111. Any ideas?
